Volkswagen Beetle Does 115 mph!?
It’s not often a Volkswagen gets pulled over for much of anything - let alone breaking the speed limit. Last week, that all changed - when Nathan Charles Hurlbirt of Colorado was chased for doing 115 miles per hour on Interstate 25. It was a beautiful night in Arapahoe County, CO when Nathan decided to fling his vintage VW Beetle around a mall parking lot. But the fun didn’t stop there! Hurlbirt jumped onto I-25 and wanted to find out just how fast his little love bug could go.
He found out when Arapahoe sheriffs clocked him at 115 mph. Police actually began a pursuit, but cut it off when Nathan wouldn’t pull over. Guess those Crown Vic’s couldn’t keep up. A few miles down the road, this exciting Beetle story came to an abrupt end. Hurlbirt apparently lost control of his 1949 Beetle and smashed it up on a highway divider. He is being held on many charges- not including the hate felt by many vintage Beetle fans. What can we take away from this tale? How about the fact that Nathan smashed his Beetle into a divider at 115 mph and was later released from the hospital (before being taken into custody) with no injuries.
