Volkswagen’s latest set of Routan ads hearken back to the classic VW MicroBus – or at least that’s what they’re going for. Ignore that world of difference between the hippie VW bus full of stoners and the Soccer Mom/Dad minivans of 2009. In the same way VW’s German Bug has been pimping out the Passat and Jetta, a California pot smoker/surfer voiced MicroBus now speaks for the 2009 and 2010 Routan.

Volkswagen Routan & The MicroBus Ad

As if this isn’t “hip” enough the Canadian’s Volkswagen Routan ad goes above and beyond the hippie van thing, depicting a troop of aging burnouts reminiscing about their MicroBus, only to be “wowed” by an all new Routan. Hmm…I get the feeling only the hippies turned yuppies would be into that.

Canada’s Reminicient VW MicroBus & Routan Ad

Still, the commercials are clever, and continue the attention grabbing advertising that has made their “Das Auto” campaign and the talking VW Bug successful. I am hoping they bring out a sly, British-accented Rabbit form the 1970′s to talk up next year’s Gulf GTi.
