Volkswagen has developed special options packages for the upcoming Polo, Golf and Golf Plus – for which it has chosen fashion design icon and photographer, Karl Lagerfeld, to represent in a German ad campaign.

The VW “STYLE” special editions of the Polo and Golf come with a “money-saving options package” including light-alloy wheels, fog lamps, tinted side and rear windows and STYLE badge. A STYLE-Plus package adds a sunroof or panorama roof, along with new sets of alloy wheels. Here’s the ad, which is in German:

The STYLE packages are also available on the Golf Plus and Golf wagon variants. Each can be purchased with most engine and trim levels. Volkswagen is also offering financing specials to German buyers as of December 23rd.
We’d love to see some of these special edition STYLE models here in the United States, especially those with a panorama roof – a new design trend both VW and other auto makers are starting to pick up for smaller vehicles.

Designer Karl Lagerfeld is best known for his man in black appearance, his ivory white hair combined with all back suit, black leather gloves and dark sunglasses. His fashion designs have been sold around the world, and can be found in magazines including Harper’s and Vogue.

Volkswagen has come out with details of their e-Golf concept. VW has finally jumped into the ring of alternative fuels by presenting their lithium-ion battery engine concept, to be placed in most of their popular models like Jetta and of course Golf. “e-Golf” as it’s being dubbed will be the first vehicle to receive the EV technology by the German Auto Maker.

The e-Golf is propelled by an 85-kilowatt electric motor integrated with a single speed transmission and differential. The motor produces 199 pound-feet of torque from zero rpm which is sufficient to accelerate the Golf to 62 mph in 11.8 seconds. An air cooled 26.5 kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack is mounted under the rear seat and cargo floor and center tunnel. VW claims the Golf can go about 93 miles on a charge.

The consumer fleet test will allow Volkswagen to gather real world data before it launches three production EVs in 2013. The first production model with be the Up blue-e-motion city car followed by the next generation Golf blue-e-motion and finally the Jetta blue-e-motion.

Volkswagen’s 2010 Rabbit was rebranded as the Golf, and then rebranded as Rabbit…only to be rererererebranded as the 2010 VW Golf. It looks like the Rabbit is dead. Make up your minds VW! This is coming from the same company that once stated : “Volkswagen customers want a relationship with their cars. Names like The Thing, Beetle, Fox, and Rabbit support this.” Frankly, we like Rabbit – who doesn’t love a little fuzzy bunny, or the though of one as you shift into 3rd while speeding onto I-90!? So long, little Rabbit, we hardly knew ye.
