The next great Volkswagen hatchback my not be a Golf or Rabbit – but a Polo. VW’s 2010 Polo made it world debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, and promises to be a hit with hip, young, cost conscious Volkswagen fans. Have a look at the official photos and press release below.

No other car in this class has such a mature and high-end image as the new Volkswagen Polo. Comfort, quality and safety have all taken a considerable leap forward. One example: the Volkswagen Polo was specifically designed to attain the recently established, stricter and more comprehensive, 5-star EuroNCAP rating. The higher structural rigidity of the Volkswagen Polo’s bodyshell contributes to these results. In the footwell area alone, intrusion – related to the car body’s deformation strength in a frontal crash – was lowered by 50 percent! In the case of a side impact, the intrusion value was reduced by 20 percent.

Standard equipment for safety

In addition, the European version of the Volkswagen Polo now being presented is equipped with standard ESP electronic stabilization program with Hill Hold Control, and it has a highly effective network of airbags on board, including combined head-thorax airbags (integrated in the front seatbacks), belt tensioners and belt force limiters plus seatbelt warning indicator and head restraints that counteract the risk of whiplash injury (both front seats), three rear head restraints and Isofix child seat preparation.

Weight down, fuel consumption down

Despite significant improvements in all aspects of the car, it was possible to reduce the Volkswagen Polo’s body weight by 7.5 percent. The introduction of new TDI and TSI engines, as well as the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG), has resulted in considerably reduced fuel consumption and emissions over a wide range of engine power outputs. An excellent example here is the new 1.2 TSI. This turbo-charged four-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine produces 77 kW / 105 PS, yet it consumes just 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (129 g/km CO2); this is 19 percent less than on the equivalent model of the previous generation!

In total, seven different engines will be offered on the new Volkswagen Polo in its first year – four gasoline and three diesel – spanning a power range from 44 kW / 60 PS to 77 kW / 105 PS. Five of these engines are entirely new or are being used for the first time in the Volkswagen Polo.

The new engines include all three TDIs (turbo-diesel direct-injection); thanks to the implementation for the first time of common rail technology in the Volkswagen Polo, these engines are both efficient and refined. The potential in the new TDI engines is clearly evident in the example of the Volkswagen Polo 1.6 TDI with 66 kW / 90 PS: when combined with a “BlueMotion package”, its average fuel consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers and 96 g/km CO2 makes it the most fuel efficient and lowest emitting five-seater diesel in the world. The “BlueMotion package” may be combined with any of the three equipment lines developed for the Volkswagen Polo. Available for selection here are the base version “Trendline”, the mid-level “Comfortline” and the top of the line “Highline”.

Individually combinable high-tech features

Options that Volkswagen Polo drivers will be able to order on their new Volkswagen include static turning lights integrated in the front fog lights, (from “Comfortline” up), side curtain airbags (head airbag system for front and rear passengers), radio and radio-navigation systems and integrated hands-free telephone systems. A panorama sunroof and bi-xenon headlights will follow at a later time.

Market launch starts the end of June 2009

Start of production of the five-door Volkswagen Polo is scheduled for the end of March 2009. This will be followed, starting in the last week in June, by the market launch of the visually and technically advanced new edition of the million unit bestseller in Germany. Just two weeks later, thanks to an ambitious logistics plan, Volkswagen will begin selling the car across mainland Europe, and soon Volkswagen Polo engines will be revving up across all continents.

The 2011 VW Beetle seems to be heading in a similar direction as Volkswagen’s Up! concept: small and sporty, with a lowered roof to take on less wind resistance. Of course, if you’re measuring close to 6′ tall you may want to go for a convertible version. 2011 will bring a less curvy/bulky Beetle onto dealer lots, showing off a more sporty look, which will be backed up by what leaked statements from the auto maker call “a wide range of engine options.”

Rumors claim the next generation Volkswagen Beetle will have a two and extended four seater variation, possibly spinning off into two separate car models. A leaked interior shot (below) shows off a flashier dash along with futuristic steering wheel and gauges. Sorry to say there doesn’t seem to be a place around the instrument panel for flowers. Herbie, is that you?

VW’s Bio Runner is designed for a one-tank, 10-gallons of fuel stipulation. Controls attached to the hands and feet of the driver are suspended in the vehicle’s protective cage body, control muscle-like suspension for optimized control. What’s the most bizarre item found in the Bio Runner? A video-feed ready miniature helicopter, which can launch and aid the driver during harsh weather conditions. Built for only a single operator, Bio Runner has enhances traction control, making it a (soon to be) destructive force when it comes to racing on the dunes of South Africa or Southern California.

What else will the future hold for Volkswagen? From the looks of things a possible Red Bull sponsorship.

Consumer demand for the 2004 R32 repeats itself with the latest 2008 Volkswagen Golf R32. These once again limited- 5,000 cars -edition of the R32 is already holding its appeal of Volkswagen fans. This “super” GTI stands out with its 250-hp, 3.2-liter six-cylinder, 18-inch wheels and 4Motion all-wheel drive. This will be available only as a two-door.

According to Volkswagen, the R32’s narrow-angle V-6 engine allows for the driver to reach from zero to sixty miles in just 6.5 seconds. The Volkswagen 32 also encompasses leathery upholstery, power sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control and a premium sound system with six-CD changer. Written on the metallic trim of the dashboard and steering wheel is the number R32 of the 5,000 that you bought.

Costing just over $30,000, the 2008 Volkswagen R32 is available in four different colors: tornado red, deep pearl blue, candy white and metallic gray.

Though the R32 has not earned any rewards for outstanding safety, they still include the standard safety features. Some of features include antilock brakes, six airbags with an electric stability system, side curtains and site torso airbags in the front seats.

The spacious interior is fitting on straight roads just as easily driving through canyons. This fast, distinct Volkswagen is a vehicle that is taken seriously in the professional world.

The all new re-designed Jetta has improved even more for 2008. With an engine that pumps out 170 horsepower and gets up 29 mpg highway, you can’t go wrong. The interior has been enhanced with six standard airbags, 60/40 rear seat folding capability to store that extra bit of cargo, the Immobilizer III theft deterrent program, smart blinker feature, and of course a sweet stereo system that’s MP3 compatible and contains 6-disk CD changer.

It has over 40 safety features to keep you and your passengers safe, including little things you wouldn’t notice that make a big difference, such as auto-locking doors that lock when you hit 8mph and auto-unlocking doors that unlock when the airbags are deployed so you can get out easier, or so rescue workers can get in faster.

When test driven, the 2008 Jetta performed beautifully, responding with the slightest touch in both the steering and power. It comes equipped with hydraulic and engine brake assist, which helps in those quick stops. The navigation system and SIRIUS satellite radio were a delight to have access to and proves that technology, great and small, can make a ride that much more enjoyable. Overall, if you’re looking for a great car riddled with technology, comfort, fuel efficiency and is just plain fun to drive, the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta is a surefire bet for you.

Not much has changed for this Volkswagen SUV since the last Touareg came out. Volkswagen’s classic approach to this SUV design makes the sport-utility vehicle handle well on the road for five comfortable riders.

With less focus on physical changes, the Touareg 2 places an emphasis on consumer preferences. One of the Volkswagen’s highlights for the Touareg is its off-road capabilities, although a small percentage of potential buyers are interested.

This mid-size SUV offers a V-6, V-8 or diesel V-10 with up to 350hp for the 6-speed. The Touareg 2 includes upscale touches with silver crossbars below the headlights and side mirrors with built-in turn signals. The V-6 comes with standard seventeen-inch wheels while for the V-8 and V-10 the wheels our nineteen-inch.

The restricted interior is made up for in the consistent high-quality design and smooth surfaces. The redesigned front-row seats include a standard 12-way power driver’s seat.

The safety features equipped with the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg 2 include side-curtain air bags, electronic stability control, active rollover protection and antilock breaks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded five out of five stars for the Touareg 2 in frontal and side impact crash tests.

Standard safety features consist of four-wheel antilock disk brakes, full-length head curtain airbags and front seat side-impact airbags. The 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit with 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway earned five out of five stars for both front and rear occupants in side-impact tests. Overall, the Rabbit got a ranking of “Good” for occupant protection by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The New Beetle took the United States by storm in 1998. Carrying many features from the original Beetle, this new line quickly became a success. The original has been around 1938.The 2008 New Beetle is produced with a choice of a coupe or a convertible. The available engine is a 150-hp, 2.5-liter I-5. You also can choose a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.There is limited room for an expansive dashboard with a large circular speedometer, and also very limited cargo space. But the backseat folds down to allow for additional storage space.

The Volkswagen New Beetle maintains its “cute” retro look while introducing a newly finished design with each new model. A significant aspect of the New Beetle which may either make or break is its friendly and familiar shape.
