2011 New Beetle – Less Bug Than Before?
Spy Shots of the 2011 Beetle have filled the internet since late last year. And with the release of VW’s Up! concept it seems the Beetle will not look very Bug like for much longer. Judging from these concept drawings (below) the New Beetle will remain with the front end look it’s had since 1950 – but the rest will be redesigned.
Both hard-top and rag-top conversions have been spied, so all those cabrio fans out there will be able to ride top-down to the beach every summer. VW has confirmed it will import a version of the sixth-generation Golf as well, built on the same frame, with a price tag of $15,000. Also headed to fan in 2011 – a hybrid Beetle!
No official price yet for the 2011 Beetles – but at least they’ll keep a dashboard vase in every model.
This is kind of upsetting, though the Bug isn’t my favorite Volkswagen it’s sad to see that they are abandoning the design that most people identify Volkswagen’s by.

I’m actually happy to see the beetle revamped again. The 1999-2010 Beetle became bloated and expensive, that had only a vague connection to the original, simply engineered, easy to work on, inexpensive vehicle that the world fell in love with. I’m looking forward to a competitively priced small, hip, vehicle that’ll get more people switching to VW instead of the low priced Kias and ever terrible Scions. GO VEEDUB!
I hate what they are doing to the beetle i have loved this car since i was 10!!! i’m a proud owner of a 2010 beetle luv my car and don’t want any other car. Now they can’t say “Will we ever kill the beetle” they just did if they make this ugly thing the new beetle!!! they shouldn’t care if guys don’t buy this car i’ll seen lots of guy driving beetles on the street it just a reason to kill is pretty car
you are destroying the unique saling point and image of beetle…The new design destroy the old beetle where you can barely call it the new 2011 beetle..this is so upsetting

You know what the green rendering of the 2011 New Beetle looks like to me? Why are they doing this to the Beetle? I agree with most here that the current Beetle is an image seared into the minds of people around the world. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! The Beetle is a unique model and rather than appeal to more target markets, why not diversity the interior for a change to appeal to a wider audience? One thing I wish there was more of was interior bling. I love the compact, lady bug shape of the exterior, but there is a ton of dash board that could be used for other stuff, maybe like Bose speakers, some cool lighting, etc.
So sad to see the Beetle die. I have a 2008 red convertible Beetle with a black top. People roll down their windows at stop lights to tell me what a cool car I have. It is my favorite car of all times–makes me feel like I am 18 again.
The pics of the new one remind me of the Yaris–just another little grocery getter. I will be keeping mine!!

I really don’t like the 2011 version — it’s no longer the BUG!!!
Why can’t vw keep the old design and make it better in quality? They should provide various type of engines for people (who care gas mileage) to choose. If some one argues for the rear passenger / cargo space, they could simply buy a bus or truck — beetle is actually a coop.
If vw really wants to achieve the practicality of the classic beetle, the new design obviously does not fit either. CHANGE is the curse behind…

I have a 1973 Beetle its sad to see the beetle get worse every year……………but this………this is not worse its a DISASTER!!!! IT MAKES ME AND PROBABLY ALL THE OTHER BEETLE LOVERS SAD!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO VW!!!???!!! :’(
im so mad about the look of the new bug. it looks like a pt cruiser and they’re ugly. i dont like it. i hate it and ill keep my 2005 bug because the 2005-2010 bugs look the best (aside from the old ones)
UGH!!!!! I have owned a 2000 and then a 2005 New Beetle and was thinking of getting a 2011. Nope, wont do it now. That picture of the new one is SUPER UGLY! It looks like a PT Cruiser which died a quick death.

I have a 2000 beetle and a 1976 beetle both great cars ,the style of the 2000 beetle is great it would be a shame to loose this beetle style.
How awful, I am on my 2nd new beetle and will not drive anything else. But I am not going to purchase this new car they are calling a new beetle. It does look like a cheap fiesta to me from the rear. Disgusting, VW how could you?
Sometimes things have to change, I own a 71 beetle pink and white convertible. I didnt really like the front.
Yuck! I don’t like the new design. I bought a 2001 new bug and then a 2006 new bug convertible. Love my ’06 and will keep it forever. Why did VW have to change a great thing? Shame on you VW.
