2010 Volkswagen GTI – Automobile of the Year!
It may not be 2010 yet, but Automobile Magazine has already declared the 2010 Volkswagen GTI Auto of the Year! Proving once again Volkswagen’s are a hugely popular brand, the auto industry periodical chose GTI as Car of the year for 2010 for a variety of reasons – starting off with an inexpensive price tag for an import (around $24,000) and the solid craftsmanship of GTI. 2010′s GTI beat out other VW cars as well as Mazda for this honor.

Gas mileage was another factor in Auto Mag’s decision – the ability to keep an approx. 22/30 mpg rating while also holding onto a respectable top speed and take-off time. Another top quality, according to the Automobile Mag piece: “The GTI also distinguishes itself from other pretenders to the pocket-rocket throne with its interior, which we already admired in the Mark 5, especially the retro plaid upholstery (happily, it carries over to the Mark 6, and leather is optional). “The interior of the Mark 6,” enthused Cammisa, “is a huge improvement on something that really didn’t need much help to begin with.” Luxury doesn’t come at the expense of function, though…”

2010′s VW GTI travels far beyond its “pocket rocket” status as a reliable ride, giving the buyer an enjoyable commute while remaining as eye-appealing as ever. Who wants to bet sales will see a steady increase, or if nothing else remain as sturdy as ever?
